FACTIONS
Blacktop Saints
The Blacktop Saints are convoy defenders, route markers, road scouts, and the people who believe the road is not just a way to travel. It is the thing keeping civilization from becoming a pile of fenced camps waiting to starve. Their patches use cracked halos, white road lines, tire marks, and warning signs repainted as sacred symbols. They are not gentle, but they believe every convoy that makes it home proves the world can still be connected.
In Redline politics, the Saints push for open roads, low tolls, shared route maps, and fast retaliation against anyone who blocks trade. They compete for control by bringing home Fuel, protecting caravans, and proving that the Redline should be led by the people willing to bleed on the highway. They are the Faction for players who want to look like road warriors with a cause instead of raiders with better public relations.
The Redline
Creative shorthand: Road Punk
Primary resource: Fuel and overland transportation
The Redline formed around an old freight yard, fuel depot, and network of broken roads. Its people keep trucks, bikes, buses, and cargo rigs moving between the surviving settlements. They refine old fuel, create rough substitutes, collect lubricants, and maintain the vehicles needed to move people and goods through the wasteland.
Redline culture is organized around crews. People earn respect by completing difficult routes, keeping damaged vehicles running, and bringing everyone home. They value direct action, quick decisions, and practical solutions. They have little patience for rules that slow down work without protecting anyone. This makes them effective during a crisis, but it can also make them reckless and resistant to long-term planning.
Redline clothing is based on mechanic coveralls, patched road leathers, work boots, goggles, scarves, utility belts, and protective layers. Crew numbers, route marks, painted warnings, and bright patches should make their clothing easy to recognize. Players should create fictional crew symbols rather than using real motorcycle club patches or military markings.
The Redline provides fuel, vehicle parts, lubricants, drivers, and convoy space. It depends on the Brightworks for batteries and electronics, the Last Ward for medical support, and the Breakwater for food and water.
Politically, the Redline favors open roads, low tolls, and quick decisions. Its leaders argue that the settlement controlling the trade network should keep goods moving rather than storing them behind walls.
Grease Crown
The Grease Crown are the fuel cooks, engine surgeons, salvage mechanics, and machine priests of the Redline. If it burns, turns, leaks, stalls, or screams when it starts, someone in the Crown probably knows how to keep it alive one more year. Their look leans into oil stained coveralls, scavenged crowns made from gears, mechanic gloves, fuel tags, and trophies cut from dead engines.
The Crown believes the Redline should be run by the people who actually keep the machines alive. They are less interested in heroic road stories and more interested in who controls the depot, the tools, the fuel, and the repair bays. Their internal competition comes from leverage. If the other Factions want trucks, guns mounted on frames, or a generator that does not cough itself to death at midnight, they are going to have to deal with the Grease Crown.
Toll Crows
The Toll Crows are scouts, smugglers, barter runners, map keepers, and opportunists who understand that every road has a price whether people admit it or not. They know which bridges hold, which crews lie, which towns pay, and which “shortcut” is just a grave with tire tracks. Their symbols use black feathers, toll tags, road maps, and crow skull imagery painted on bags, jackets, and route markers.
The Crows argue that the Redline survives because it knows how to make movement profitable. They favor controlled routes, negotiated passage, private contracts, and information held close until someone pays for it. They compete by bringing in rare goods, making deals others could not, and proving that the best route is not always the cleanest one. They are the Faction for players who like travel, trade, secrets, and looking like they absolutely know where the bodies are buried.
